Picture your 4th grader riding a chairlift in a state they have never skied, with a whole map of mountains still waiting. That is what the Ski Utah Passport puts within reach. For $79, any 4th, 5th, or 6th grader from any state gets 3 days of lift access at each of Utah’s open ski resorts. This winter, that adds up to 14 resorts and 42 days on the snow.

Sounds too good to be true? We hear that question from parents all the time, so here is the plain answer. The Passport is real, it is open to kids who live outside Utah, and it comes with a few rules worth knowing before you book your trip. We walk through all of it below, the same way we would if you called our reservations team.

🎟️

💰 Why the Ski Utah Passport Changes the Math on Your Family Ski Vacation

Planning a ski trip with kids? Lift tickets are often the line item that makes you pause. For a child in 4th, 5th, or 6th grade, Utah gives you a different starting point. One $79 Passport covers their lift access for the whole season, at 14 resorts.

Here is what that looks like on a real vacation. We divided the Passport price by the number of days your child skis.

Days Your Child Skis At $79 (Through Nov 30) At $99 (From Dec 1)
3 days About $26 per day $33 per day
5 days About $16 per day About $20 per day
7 days About $11 per day About $14 per day

📋 Math note: These are our own figures, found by dividing the Passport price by the days skied. They cover lift access only. Lessons, rentals, gear, and parking are separate.

Now try the same math on the other destinations on your list. What would your child’s lift tickets cost for the same days somewhere else? We cannot speak for every ski area, so we encourage you to run the numbers before you book. In Utah, that line item is a flat $79 for the season. It travels with your child to 14 different mountains, and it works for any 4th to 6th grader, no matter where home is.

With your child’s lift access handled, more of your trip can go toward the moments you will remember: a lesson on a bluebird morning, a stay close to the lifts, hot chocolate at the end of the day. That is why we think this is one of the strongest reasons for a family with a 4th to 6th grader to choose Utah.

🎿 What the Ski Utah Passport Includes

Each Passport gives your child 3 days of lift access at each participating resort. The days do not have to be back to back, and the Passport is good for the 2026-27 season only.

Here are the 14 resorts open this winter: Alta, Beaver Mountain, Brian Head, Brighton, Cherry Peak, Deer Valley, Nordic Valley, Park City Mountain, Powder Mountain, Snowbasin, Snowbird, Solitude, Sundance, and Woodward Park City.

Because each resort caps at 3 days, a week of skiing naturally leads to at least three different mountains. Think of it as a built-in excuse to explore. Your child gets to compare steep and gentle terrain, wide-open bowls and tree runs, and big resort villages and small-town hills.

⚠️ A Note About Eagle Point

Eagle Point has paused operations for the 2026-27 season because of the Cottonwood Fire, according to the resort’s announcement. You may still see “15 resorts and 45 days” in older articles and some news coverage. The accurate count this winter is 14 resorts and 42 days.

“…we don’t just stay in one place anymore. We get to explore!”

Makena, a 4th grader, on her first Passport season (via Ski Utah’s blog)

You are in good company. Ski Utah reported in 2022 that more than 150,000 grade-school kids had used the program, and families from other states keep coming back for it.

🌎 Who Qualifies? Yes, Kids From Out of State Count

This is the part many families miss. You do not need to live in Utah, attend a Utah school, or have any Utah connection. If your child qualifies, they can apply.

  • ✅ Grade: Currently enrolled in 4th, 5th, or 6th grade. Homeschooled students qualify too.
  • 🎂 Age: Between 9 and 12 years old for the whole ski season.
  • 1️⃣ One per grade: Each student can buy one Passport per grade level. Passports cannot be transferred or swapped.
  • 👨‍👩‍👧‍👦 More than one child? Register everyone under one account, and add each child from the Pass Portal.

Is your child close to the age cutoff, turning 13 mid-season, or still 8 when the season starts? Call Ski Utah at (801) 534-1779 or email pass-support@skiutah.com before you apply, so there are no surprises.

✅ How to Apply for the Ski Utah Passport

The whole process happens online, and the Passport is fully digital, so there is no booklet to wait for.

  • Create an account in the Ski Utah Pass Portal.
  • Register your child and upload a current photo (a JPG or PNG file).
  • Pay online. The price is $79 through Nov 30, then $99 starting Dec 1.
  • Wait for approval. Ski Utah says approval takes about 24 to 48 hours. You will get an email when it is ready.
  • Track your days in the Pass Portal on any device. It shows what you have used and what is left at each resort.

⏰ Plan ahead: Apply well before your trip, and before Nov 30 to keep the $79 price. Your own lift tickets can go in the same cart, since you can add a Yeti Pass when you buy the Passport (more on that below).

📅 Ski Utah Passport Blackout Dates 2026-27

Five resorts have no blackout dates. At the other nine, the Passport is blacked out on a handful of holiday dates.

Group Resorts Blackout Dates
No blackout dates Brian Head, Cherry Peak, Nordic Valley, Snowbasin, Solitude None
Holiday blackouts apply Alta, Beaver Mountain, Brighton, Deer Valley, Park City Mountain, Powder Mountain, Snowbird, Sundance, Woodward Park City Nov 27-28, 2026
Dec 26-31, 2026
Jan 16-17, 2027
Feb 13-14, 2027

Here is what those dates line up with on the calendar.

Blackout Dates What They Cover
Nov 27-28 Friday and Saturday after Thanksgiving
Dec 26-31 Christmas week through New Year’s Eve
Jan 16-17 Saturday and Sunday of Martin Luther King Jr. weekend
Feb 13-14 Saturday and Sunday of Presidents’ Day weekend

Here is a local detail worth noticing: the Monday holidays, Jan 18 and Feb 15, are not on Ski Utah’s blackout list. Confirm with the resort before you plan around them, since resort rules can change.

🎄 Planning Around Christmas Week

Christmas week is when many families travel, and it is also when nine resorts are blacked out. You still have good options.

  • 📆 Ski Park City Mountain and Deer Valley before Dec 26 or after Dec 31.
  • 🏔️ Use the five no-blackout resorts during Dec 26-31: Solitude, Snowbasin, Nordic Valley, Cherry Peak, and Brian Head. Some are a longer drive from Park City, so check distances and road conditions for your dates.

Not sure how to split the week? Call us. We help families build a plan around the blackouts every season.

🎟️ How to Redeem the Passport at Park City Mountain and Deer Valley

Buying the Passport is the easy part. Each resort redeems it a little differently, so a few minutes of prep saves a lot of time at the ticket window.

Park City Mountain

Park City Mountain redeems the Passport at only two places, and your child needs an up-to-date Epic account before you arrive.

  • Redeem in the Pass Portal first and save the redemption receipt on your phone or print it.
  • Set up your child’s Epic account on the Park City Mountain website before you arrive.
  • Go to a ticket window at Mountain Village (the main windows across from the Payday lift) or Canyons Village (the main booth by the Red Pine Gondola).
  • Get your RFID card. Staff load all 3 days onto one reusable card on the first visit. After that, you can go straight to the lift.

Mountain Village and Canyons Village are the two places to redeem the Passport at Park City Mountain.

🅿️ Parking: The Detail Most Families Miss

Park City Mountain has changed its parking for 2026-27. At Canyons Village, the new parking structure charges $29 a day before noon, with free parking after noon and free carpool spots for vehicles with four or more riders when space allows. The structure is expected to open in early December, with surface lots in use before then. At Mountain Village, paid parking reservations are required before noon.

Rules like these can shift, so check Park City Mountain’s parking page before your trip. Or skip the question. Staying in Canyons Village or Mountain Village can take parking off your list for most days, and our Canyons Village parking guide explains the options.

Deer Valley

Deer Valley follows the same pattern. Redeem in the Pass Portal, bring your receipt to the ticket window, and get an RFID card with all 3 days loaded. One big note for snowboarding families: Deer Valley is ski only, so the Passport cannot be used there on a snowboard. Ski Utah’s snow report lists a planned Deer Valley opening of Dec 5, though opening dates depend on snow.

All 14 Resorts at a Glance

This table summarizes the official redemption rules. Ski Utah’s Passport FAQ page has the full steps for every resort, so check it before each visit.

🧭 Plan Your Passport Trip From a Park City Base

Utah’s resorts are spread across the state. The Cottonwood Canyons hold Alta, Brighton, Snowbird, and Solitude. Powder Mountain, Nordic Valley, and Snowbasin sit near Ogden. Beaver Mountain and Cherry Peak are near Logan, and Brian Head is in southern Utah. Park City puts several day trips within reach, plus two of the state’s best-known resorts right in town.

Trip Style Where to Ski Keep in Mind
Long weekend (3 to 4 days) Park City Mountain and Deer Valley, plus one more such as Solitude or Woodward Park City Choose dates outside the blackout windows
Week outside the holidays (5 to 7 days) Park City Mountain and Deer Valley, plus a day at Sundance and a Cottonwood Canyons resort The Passport allows 3 days maximum per resort
Christmas week (Dec 26-31) Solitude, Snowbasin, Nordic Valley, Cherry Peak, or Brian Head Park City Mountain and Deer Valley are blacked out, so ski them before or after

Two practical tips. First, canyon roads can slow down during storms, so give yourself extra time on powder days. Second, save the farthest resorts for a second trip or a long school break, and spend your first days close to your lodging.

Flying in? Our Salt Lake City airport to Park City guide covers every way to get here. Park City’s free buses also connect the villages, as our guides to the Mountain Village transit hub and the Canyons Village transit hub explain.

👨‍👩‍👧 Don’t Forget the Grown-Ups: The Yeti Pass

The Passport covers your child. Parents and guardians need their own lift tickets, and that is where Ski Utah’s Yeti Pass comes in. For 2026-27, it costs $899 and gives you one lift ticket at each participating resort, with no blackout dates and no age limit. Ski Utah says quantities are limited and the pass sells out, so decide early if you want one.

It can be a neat fit for a family on a multi-day trip, since you and your child can visit the same resorts together. If you already hold another multi-resort pass, check which Utah resorts it includes before you buy. Ski Utah also has a helpful guide to other multi-resort pass options, and details on the Yeti Pass are on its own page.

🧤 Lessons, Rentals, and Other Costs to Plan For

Parents ask us one question more than any other: what does the Passport not cover? The honest answer is everything except your child’s lift access.

Included With the Passport Plan for Separately
✅ 3 days of lift access at each of 14 resorts
✅ Pass Portal to track your days
✅ A fully digital pass with no booklet
🎿 Lessons
🥾 Rentals and gear
🅿️ Parking
🎟️ Parents’ lift tickets
🍔 Meals and snacks

A few ways to ease the rest:

  • 🛒 Check the Pass Portal. Ski Utah posts Passport-holder offers each season, including partner offers on rentals and gear. We cannot promise specific lesson offers, so look there before you book a lesson.
  • 🔄 Visit a ski swap. Utah ski swaps usually run from September through November. Ski Utah keeps a list of Utah ski swaps.
  • 🏬 Compare local shops. Kids grow fast, and rentals can make sense through a growth spurt. Ski Utah lists local rental and retail shops.
  • 🎓 Book a lesson early. If your child is new to the sport, a lesson on the first day makes every day after it easier.

❓ Ski Utah Passport FAQs

Can out-of-state kids get a Ski Utah Passport?

Yes. Any student in 4th, 5th, or 6th grade can apply, no matter which state or country they live in. Homeschooled students qualify too. The student must be enrolled in that grade and be between 9 and 12 years old for the whole ski season.

How much is the 2026-27 Ski Utah Passport?

The Passport costs $79 through November 30, 2026, then $99 starting December 1. The price is per student, and each student can buy one Passport per grade level.

How many days does the Ski Utah Passport include?

Each Passport includes 3 days of lift access at each participating resort. Eagle Point has paused operations for the 2026-27 season, so that means 14 resorts and 42 days this winter. The days do not have to be consecutive.

What are the Ski Utah Passport blackout dates?

Brian Head, Cherry Peak, Nordic Valley, Snowbasin, and Solitude have no blackout dates. At Alta, Beaver Mountain, Brighton, Deer Valley, Park City Mountain, Powder Mountain, Snowbird, Sundance, and Woodward Park City, the Passport is blacked out on Nov 27-28, Dec 26-31, Jan 16-17, and Feb 13-14.

How do I redeem the Ski Utah Passport at Park City Mountain?

Redeem in your Ski Utah Pass Portal first, then bring the redemption receipt to a Park City Mountain ticket window. The Passport can only be redeemed at Mountain Village (the main windows across from the Payday lift) or Canyons Village (the main booth by the Red Pine Gondola). Your child also needs an up-to-date Epic account. All three days load onto one reusable RFID card on the first visit.

Can snowboarders use the Ski Utah Passport?

Yes, at most resorts. Alta does not allow snowboarding, and Deer Valley is ski only. The Passport works for snowboarders at the other participating resorts.

Do I need to buy my own lift ticket?

Yes. The Passport covers your child’s lift access only. Adults need their own lift tickets or a pass. The Ski Utah Yeti Pass, at $899 for 2026-27, gives adults one ticket at each participating resort with no blackout dates, and quantities are limited.

Does the Ski Utah Passport include lessons or rentals?

No. The Passport covers lift access. Ski Utah posts Passport-holder offers on rentals and gear in the Pass Portal each season, so check there before you buy or rent.
